World of tanks what is derp
They fire AP shells and rely on penetrating armour. They rely on overwhelming damage-per-shot or 'alpha' and their ability to destroy modules and kill crew with HE, without actually penetrating armour. Pretty much any tank besides premium tanks and a few scouts has access to a derp gun. You can figure out which is which by looking at the size. If it's the biggest gun available, with the slowest reload, then it's probably a derp.
The difference between derp and normal gun is massive. Derps are an 'all or nothing' proposition, you absolutely HAVE to cause damage with them because, with a long reload, they leave you exposed. A good way to avoid this is to get into cover and wait it out, which is why derps are a bit more defensive.
A popular tactic is to lurk around a corner with a derp gun, daring the enemy to come around. No-one wants to be the first so you end up holding entire flanks by threat alone. The problem with derp guns is that they have been nerfed into uselessness. Since the game released there have been a lot of changes in the way armour is modeled, the way armour works and the way HE damage is applied - all of which adds up to HE causing a lot less damage than before.
Because of this people stay away from derps, so all tanks are reduced to having one 'best' gun and two or three underpowered guns. Think of it as a shotgun to a rifle. Unfortunately it's not always the case that HE rounds from a derp gun will do high dmg because of their low pen HEAT excepted.
One of my favourite derp shots - in my KV-2 last night on Ruinville, in the little town halfway up the east side. The mm gun on the KV-2 is one example. Derp guns are also usually howitzers mounted on non-arty tanks that utilize powerful HE shells with low penetration, often one-shotting opponents of the same tier.
These guns prove to be effective even in the hands of relatively unskilled players, which is how this nickname arose.
Tomato is a term used to describe seemingly unskilled players. The term arose from the use of a mod called XVM, which displays players as certain colors based on their game stats.
If you want to improve at the game and avoid reaching tomato status, you should look over our simple guidelines for how not to be a tomato in World of Tanks. Super Unicum players are among the best of the best, at least as far as stats are concerned. Unicum players appear as purple and usually have a WN8 rating of or higher. This one is a bit more literal.
Face-hugging occurs when one tank battles another tank at point blank range. The fronts of both tanks are pressed up against one another, so their faces are essentially hugging.
This is often done to prevent an opponent from shooting at your hull, but this can backfire as they may still be able to shoot your turret. This term is usually used when the RNG trolls you by leaving the enemy you just shot on 1 hp hit point. Other examples are when you've got your shot completely lined up only to watch your shell veer completely off target. Thanks RNG! In WoT tho it refers to people who drive recklessly into battle usually at the beginning of the match straight into 7 enemy tanks.
This is not necessarily always a bad thing as sometimes it causes enough confusion for teammates to follow in and start dishing out the damage while the enemy distracted by the yoloing tank.
This one is a little harder to describe as it can have several meanings. One being, to refer to a "derp" gun. Which is the gun choice for tanks that deals out massive damage with a low rate of fire. The Hetzer has two guns; the faster ROF rate of fire gun that deals less damage per shot, and the derp gun that can one shot most tier 3's and critically damages tier 4's, 5's, and 6's.
Finally this term can also be used to refer to people doing silly things on the battle field, or just making mistakes. Zennosha, on 16 August - AM, said:. RNG is random number generator. Most games have a random number generator that calculates how much damage you do. Say you do damage when your stats say your tank does like damage per shot. That is the random number generator making your shots.
